Spacer
“A Spacer
for Every Space”
Technical information for Developers, Consultants, Engineers
and Contractors.
“What is a
Spacer?”
A
Spacer : An article either in plastic or concrete
that is placed in between the formwork and the reinforcement
bars to keep them in position before and after casting.
Spacers are internationally recognized and recommended.
Spacers also help to prevent spalling concrete and provide
concrete covers.
In
the 60's spacers were first introduced to construction
sites around the world. However, then, contractor cast
their own concrete spacers at site. With the advance
of construction technology, many countries started to
manufacture plastic spacers.
In the 80's, plastic spacers were first introduced and
highly recommended to Singapore by its biggest developer,
the public housing entity of the Housing & Development
Board (HDB).
“How
is a Spacer made?”
Plastic
spacers are manufactured by the precision plastic injection
moulding. The process itself, using the latest sophisticated
technology and machinery, requires experience and technical
know-how to ensure close tolerances and high quality
control.
“Why
use a Spacer?”
There are
many advantages to plastic spacers as compared to the conventional
practices:-
- Safety in Handling
and 'Environmentally- friendly'
- Total Convenience
and Peace of Mind
Resistance
to Corrosion
High Density P. E. the core material used, is entirely
chemically inert under the most stringent conditions
and has excellent resistance to acids and chemicals.
P. E. is also non toxic material that is commonly used
and cost effective and is fully versatile in even the
most complicated design to meet every industry needs.
Safety
in Handling and 'Environmentally- friendly'
Every spacer has been designed and manufactured with
safety in mind. There are no sharp edges or corners.
Furthermore, they are lightweight - simply carry them
to the highest floor without fear of overloading on
the lift or even the worker. Plastic spacers mean no
more messy concrete laying around on site, thus enhancing
our green environment. Avoid manual mixing of cement
and sand as control of perfect and consistence ratio
are a difficult task to achieve.
Total
Convenience and Peace of Mind
Plastic spacers offer great convenience and are more
cost-effective in the long run. Have peace of mind that
every spacer manufactured and used meet stringent test
requirements from Singapore's top laboratory and is
designed to meet your every need. There is a spacer
for every need. They can also be designed just to meet
your requirement. For instance, the MRTC has been the
result of work down with the Mass Rapid Transit of Singapore
for their tunnels and tracks.
Cost
Savings
There are many cost saving in using plastic spacers
simply because:
Plastic Spacers = - Quality and Cost-effective
-
Consistent in size, shape and
aesthetics.
-
Light
and handy.
-
Saves
contract work duration
-
Saves
labour costs
-
Saves site overhead
-
Allow
earlier hand-over of building
-
Allow
earlier occupation of building
-
Allow earlier operation of business
